Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier Review

Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier Review

I came across the Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier about a year or so ago.  At the time I was looking for a vest that was capable of holding both soft armor and SAPI plates and most of all it had to be cheap because I was on a budget!  I had used Condor products before and while they don’t make the highest quality products on the market, they do sell a product that people can actually afford.

The Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier comes in a variety of colors including multicam and can be purchased for around $100-120. It has a built in mechanism for quickly dropping the entire vest from your body if the situation dictates. Molle strapping is abundant, evenly spaced and I have yet to see it fail.

One of the really positive aspects of this vest is that the cummerbund is not flexible at its rear attachment point, so you don’t have to use 550 cord to tie it all together.

The vest easily fits my soft armor panels and my ceramic SAPI plates and holds them securely.

One downside is that it does not have a pouch to hold an extra trauma plate in the chest area.

The vest has primarily been used for call outs and rarely has seen extended field use, however, through my experience with other condor products Im sure it would hold up well under extended use and exposure to the elements.  The adjustable padded shoulder straps provide all day comfort unlike some other vest I have used.  I have spent entire days wearing the vest in conjunction with my Camelbak Talon backpack and didn’t feel any extreme discomfort.

If Condor asked me what they could do to improve the vest I would tell them to do two things:

  • Add an internal pocket for a trauma plate.
  • Provide extra velcro on the back to support standard sized LEO identifiers.

I’m sure people will ask “Condor? For duty use? Isn’t that for Airsoft?”  Who knows! All I know is, it works, it was cheap and it is becoming extremely popular in law enforcement circles.

  1. Condor gets a lot of crap in some circles, but their quality has really improved in the last couple years in my experience. Not US made, but other than that, pretty decent gear.

    1. I was hesitant to post this review because it is a Condor vest, however, this carrier is for people that don’t need a $500 vest. Unfortunately with budgets these days people have to fend for themselves and this is a great value for the money. Obviously some will say that you shouldn’t place your life in danger using sub par gear, the fact of the matter is that tons of guys are using these vest on the LE side and I haven’t heard of any problems. Sometimes Condor is better quality than what is issued. It all depends on your employers budget.

  2. I love my U.S. made gear (T.T., LBT). People do look down on Condor because it’s made offshore and was used primarily by the airsoft crowd. But a lot of people forget that a bunch of Blackhawk stuff is made overseas and they don’t bat an eye. When I was processing customs in Kuwait my Blackhawk assault pack failed and dumped my gear. Ironic if you know the story of Blackhawk’s founding. To their credit they sent a new pack. I say if the Condor works for you and is of good quality, who cares? I’d take Condor gear over some 5.11 tacticool stuff and 5.11 is supposed to be a “good quality” LE gear company.

    1. Johnny,
Here at blacksheepwarrior.com we love US made gear as well. The problem is that most of the US made gear these days is really expensive and priced for GOV contract consumption. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Dept/Agencies who do not provide their people with tactical outer carriers and guys are forced to buy their own. Several years ago I bought a tactical soft armor outer carrier that was US made specifically for my armor and it wore out quite quickly not to mention how overpriced it was. Finding the Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier came as a real relief because it fit both soft armor panels as well as plates (Personally owned SAPI plates). We do not claim that this vest is for every situation, but if you are looking for an inexpensive solution its a great choice. If you know any US made products that fit this bill please let them know that we would be happy to evaluate their products. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and Stay safe out there! Stay tuned for our next review of Tactical Tolerance’s Talon Bolt Lug Scraper Tool, which is due out shortly. You will like it, its all about American innovation and manufacturing! Stay tuned!

  3. Extremely helpful, changing my set up and way of thinking because of this article. Why use a chest rig instead of a plate carrier? Thanks a lot.
