OUTBAGS Leather IWB Holster Review

Outbags has been family owned and operated company since 1997 out of Southern California. They produce great quality leather holsters for a wide verity of handguns and in an assortment of carrying configurations.

OUTBAGS Leather IWB Holster

I purchased an Outbags leather holster for my Springfield Armory XD40 subcompact. It was an inside the waistband style (IWB) with a single retaining clip to hold it fast to my belt. Although it was recommended that it be used in the front of my pants near my right pocket, I’ve carried concealed in the small of my back for years and find that position most natural for me.

Upon receiving the Outbags leather IWB holster in the mail, I have to admit I went through a few seconds of doubt as to whether they sent me the right one, or if this was in fact a left handed model.  It didn’t take me long to discover that I just had the thing upside down. Apparently this is more than a common occurrence and is clearly defined in the directions for care and use of the holster that was included in the box.

They all but make fun of the confusion most users go through at first glance of their holsters. It made me laugh a little at my own stupidity as well as their ability to poke fun at me through their overly simple directions for the use of their equipment.

I turned the Outbags leather IWB holster over and found a very effective, well made device for securing my handgun within my waistband. The leather is thick and stiff. Like a new baseball glove, it needed a little breaking in. The company suggests the user clear their handgun before working it into the holster the first few times. This is a good idea as it took a bit of effort to get the XD40 into it. Once worked in a couple times though, it fit like a glove and now slides in and out with little effort.  That’s not to say that it could ever fall out. It is definitely secure and upon holding the holster upside down with the handgun in it, shaking it vigorously does not release the gun.

The clip designed to hold the Outbags leather IWB holster to the user’s belt is extremely stout and grips my pants like a pissed off alligator. It took a little getting used to in order to be able to put it on and take it off and still look like I knew what I was doing.

Where to find it:

The price for this particular Outbags IWB holster was extremely reasonable at $26.99 with free shipping through Amazon.com (purchase through the link below and you help Will keep the lights on around here). It comes in both a right handed and left handed draw styles. I found it to be very comfortable carrying just to the right of my spine in the small of my back. I’d easily recommend it to anyone in need of a quality level one holster for pure concealment.
