Snake Eater Tactical Cobra Belt

Snake Eater Tactical Cobra Rigger Belt Review

Let me start out by saying, I’m not a writer, I use a completely different skill set to earn a living.  But, when my friends at Blacksheepwarrior.com asked me to test out a new product they received from Snake Eater Tactical, I realized that putting word to paper would be in my near future.

Now that it has come time for me to “get to work” I can only hope that I can portray on paper how pleased I am with the Snake Eater Tactical Cobra Belt.  If you’re one of those people that can’t read the inside of a book cover before getting bored, let me help…

Cliff notes…this belt rocks!

Ok yes, it is just a belt and what can be so awesome about a belt, right? Well, it is pretty simple really…how it is made.  The diamond pattern stitched throughout the length isn’t just a cool optical treat, but instead adds structure and support to what would normally be a flimsy length of nylon.  For me, the added support is absolutely critical.  I’m a skinny dude, putting a duty belt with a full load of the normal cop toys on me is like trying to put a collar on a pig (for those that have never tried, rest assure, it doesn’t work).  No matter how tight I had my duty belt or how many keepers I used, I always had issues with it it bouncing and shifting when I ran after subjects.

For me, there is nothing more annoying or uncomfortable then having to deal with your gear bouncing all over the place when running after someone.  It is bad enough trying to catch someone when you have an extra 25-30 Lbs of gear around your hips, but then add in the extra fun of that load moving all over the place and you have a perfect storm of pain-in-the-ass-ness!

I tracked the problem down to the rigger belt I was using as an under belt, The inner belt was too soft and that allowed for the belt to flex and move when pulled on by the weight of my duty gear.

When I was given the Snake Eater Tactical Rigger Belt, the first thing I noticed was how stiff it is.  Mind you, this isn’t a bad stiff, the belt still curves around you and feels completely natural, but if you try and bend the belt laterally, it doesn’t give much.  And there it is, the reason that this belt rocks.  I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and it still feels as rigid as the first day I tried it on.  My duty belt has gone from a bouncing nightmare to a more solid extension of my body and that has made a huge difference in my speed when running.

Another plus about the Snake Eater Tactical Rigger Belt is the quick release Cobra buckle by AustriAlpin.  Before I got the belt, I was told that the Cobra buckle was all that and a bag of cheese.  I agree, it is a nice touch, the fact that I can get out of my pants super quick is pretty cool.  Can’t say I’ve ever had to de-pant in the field, but who knows, maybe one day!  Overall, the buckle is light, flat and fits well underneath my duty belt, but I wouldn’t say the Cobra buckle is the main selling point of this belt.  Still, it does add to the total package that makes this belt an excellent piece of equipment.

So, what about the negatives?  Well, I can only think of one thing.  That cool Cobra buckle wont fit through your standard belt loop.  In my opinion it should be able to fit through the belt loops on your pants, mainly just to make it easier to change from one pair of pants to the next.  The way it sits now, I have to pull the Velcro end through the buckle to remove the belt from the pants.  Because of this, I worry about the long term integrity of the stitching that holds the Velcro to the nylon belt.  It can be difficult to get the Velcro stitched part of the belt through the buckle.  I would imagine that, over time, this would cause the Velcro to fray and start to separate from the belt.  I haven’t had any problems with that happening on mine, but it is definitely something I plan on keeping an eye on.  In all honesty, this minor issue is the one concern I have with the belt.

Overall, this belt is a keeper.  The rigidness and strength of Snake Eater’s design alone, are reasons to pick up one of these belts. You can find the Snake Eater Tactical Cobra Rigger Belt along with other great products on their website.

There you go.

  1. Good article! Thanks for the great explanation of tactical belts. We must consider purchasing one of these systems.

  2. There are many types of tactical belts and accessories which serve various purposes but for me, a simple tactical belt is a multipurpose hard-wearing belt used to carry or attach things.
